North Blackpool Pond Trail

Kincraig Lake

The Pond Trail is a three year project that’s helping to involve local people with our historic but little-known network of ponds and wetlands.

Stretching from Kincraig Lake (Bispham Marsh) in the north to the reedbed off Holyoake Avenue in the south this green corridor includes twenty-three ponds.

Some of the ponds have great crested newts, others feature flowering dykes and reed beds. Many are regionally important too, classed as Biological Heritage Sites.

Enjoy it, it’s your local resource

Everyone’s welcome to enjoy using the Pond Trail, whether it’s for exercise, cycling or a quiet stroll to watch the wildlife. There’s plenty of it to see!

Enjoy getting involved too

We’d like to welcome everyone who wants to see more, find out what’s going on ... and maybe lend a hand too. The project is opening up access to nature by tackling issues such as invasive non-native plants, blocked footpaths, vandalism and litter. Our staff and volunteers are making sure that the local ponds and wetlands are properly surveyed and have management plans, helping raise the profile of this unique urban oasis.

We're one of 30 flagship Groundwork projects that form part of Operation Groundwork, a campaign to celebrate thirty years of Groundwork.

Why not give us a call soon on 01253 622222.
